True Confessions

Have you ever had a task that you knew HAD to be done, but you also knew that you really DID NOT want to do it? Have you ever thought about said task with serious dread, for no logical reason?I have TWO of these on my list right now. It's an imaginary list really...it exists only in my brain. It's the part of my brain that contains memories of my most embarrassing moments, scarey movies I have seen, and other things that I'd rather forget about, but can't.The contents of this part of my brain follows me around like an annoying gnat or a mosquito. I try in vain to ignore it, to look the other way, so to speak. But I know that it's there. I know that the only way I am going to make the gnat go away is to face the darn thing, and do what it takes to get rid of it.It's funny, because these little annoying thoughts should not be that big of a deal. But I have succeeded in blowing them all out of proportion, and now I don't know if I am able to face them and conquer.

Here they are:

1) I need to put away my Christmas decorations.
I know what you are thinking: "You haven't taken those down yet? I had mine down on the 26th! (Or even on New Year's Day.) How can you stand it?"I don't know why this task seems so unbearably daunting. It's not like I haven't done it a gazillion times before. But this time, for some reason, I just keep looking at those decorations and I feel totally overwhelmed by the thought of the process of the take down and pack up.

2) I need to get a mammogram.
Yikes! I sooooo don't want to do this!! I know it's super important for women my age (over 50), but I have never done it, and I am so nervous. My daughter keeps reminding me. She started out with gentle reminders. Now she is becoming quite adamant. I don't blame her. She wants to know that she has nothing to worry about. So do I! But I keep avoiding it. Do I really have to? I mean...why do we have to let doctors mess with our female parts? It's really none of their business. Don't answer that question. I already know the answer. But I still don't want to!!

OK. There you go. I'm sure there are other items on that list...but I have pushed them so far to the back that I don't remember them right now. All I can think about are these two.

Maybe someone out there is a psychologist and can tell me why I am doing this. I would love to know! I seem to be able to tackle so many other tasks without a second thought... go figure. I hope that by confessing them I will now be able to overcome.

Well...Have a great rest of the week! And if you can relate to what I said, and you too are a procrastinator, take pictures of your house with your decorations still up and send them to me so I won't feel so bad! Maybe I will do a follow-up post: "Bloggers Who Don't Do Things They Should"!

JUST IN: "Bohemian Festival' strike-offs!

Hope everyone is having a Happy New year! (So far) How are your New Year's resolutions coming?

I made it the first day...kept all my resolutions for that one day.

Day two, again, kept the resolutions.

Day three: all @%#* broke loose. I won't elaborate because it involves graphic details that I dare not expose on a public site. Let's just say I am going to get back on the horse today...later.

Why oh why is it so hard to keep those resolutions?? Sometimes I wonder if there are unseen forces at play here...I could explain but it would sound weird.

oh well.

ON to the topic of the day: BOHEMIAN FESTIVAL!

"What is that??" you might ask.

It is not a week long glorified party thrown by gypsies that you are all invited to...rather it is the name of my summer 2012 collection due to arrive on quilt shop shelves in June to be exact.

Today I am showing you a little glimpse of it from the strike-offs I was given to look over, to check for any changes I want to make in color, etc. These are little samples of the prints that are done up by the factory early on in the process, for the purpose of proofing before the final yardage gets printed.

Luckily...and this is very rare, there were only one or two little changes I needed to make. Such as: "Darken this yellow, lighten up this pink".

I am loving how this collection is coming together! It is going to be so much fun to sew with for spring...I am already envisioning all kinds of delightful designs coming together with these prints and colors.

Something new (for me)...all of these fabrics can be mixed and matched to create a ton of luscious combinations for your sewing pleasure!! Rather than having three separate colorways with only a few cross-over colors, these can all work together beautifully.

We at Lila Tueller Designs also have a few new patterns in the making, so watch for those coming on the scene soon!

Forgive me for my long vacation from posting! I have been consumed by other, more pressing concerns in the last two or three weeks, and have not had the time or the energy to be more regular in my updates. I'm sure that you all know and understand about such things. Therefore, enough said!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We, at the Tueller home, have had a great time!

I thought I would share a few pictures from our Christmas celebration.

We had anticipated having all of our family here for Christmas but my one eldest son, who is living in Taiwan right now. He told us he simply could not make it: no possible way, absolutely could not make it happen. That was to be very sad for us all, as everyone else was coming, and he happens to be the life of the party...the tease, the comedian, etc. How boring for us to have him missing!

Then...just before Christmas, he just showed up! He walked silently into the house unannounced and completely unnoticed by anyone, went upstairs to my bedroom and scared the "pageebers" out of me by walking into my bathroom as I was getting ready for bed. I nearly did a knockout karate kick to his jaw before I realized it was him.

Here is Trent just minutes after scaring me out of my wits.

THAT was a good surprise!

Having all seven of my kids under my roof, along with my son-in-law and two little sweet Grandbabies has been so much fun! Our house feels much smaller... and the aftermath of Christmas paraphernalia has threatened to take over the world, but I couldn't be happier about it.

I only wish you could have been here to watch little Lola play with our Bernese Mountain Dog "Maggie". The dog is MUCH bigger than Lola is, but she has absolutely NO fear. They have become best friends! And just to hear her little 18 month old voice very sternly say "Maggie, SIT!" gives me more pleasure than I can express!
(I have to get a good picture of this...all of them have been blurry because there is so much movement between the dog and the baby, as you can imagine)

So the story here is magical and heavenly, even though there has been much too much chocolate, toffee, nut brittle, carmels, candies, eggnog, Martinelli's, hot cocoa, cheese balls, sauces, gravies, and other decadent goodies consumed constantly, and not enough sleep to be sure, I have zero complaints!

Finally...a few Quilt Market Pics!

So here we go...a week or two after market, I am finally up and running. It seriously took me this long to feel human again! There were many sleepless nights before and during the event, so when I came home I actually crashed for a while. Literally.
But I promised that I would bring home some pictures for you to see what market was like this time. I have just a little sampling here so you can get a feel for it.

First up: My little corner booth, which I did this time with Michelle Golightly, my partner in crime. That's Michelle there, with her back to the camera, helping a customer. The fabric collection we were featuring is called "Fiona's Fancy" (Riley Blake).

And this is Michelle. She lives across the street from me, and down a couple houses. Michelle is an amazing seamstress, among other things. In fact there are only a couple of things she can't do well that I know of: spell and draw. She had helped me through a couple of quilt markets, sewing samples and helping run the booth. Then I decided to put her to better use. When I was about to lose my sanity over all the things I was trying to do, I decided that I needed someone to take over the pattern design department of my business. I knew that she could do it. (I would of course need to do the drawings for her, and check her spelling...heehee)
So her very first pattern for me was the Deluxe Organizer pattern. And then for this market, she did three new ones: The Classy Cases, Casual Clutches, and Practical Pouches.

Now I still reserve the right to do a pattern myself if I ever get in the mood, but Michelle is going to be designing for me as well, as long as she can take it:)

And this above, is Michelle's daughter Mary. Mary was a major part of quilt market preparations this time, as she is SUPER smart, organized, and on the ball. We all know I lack in most of those categories, so thank goodness she was available and willing to help. Not to mention being 7 months pregnant!

This above is the London Peasant Top/Dress for Women, done in the orchid colorway of Fiona's Fancy. And below we have a sampling of the Cases and Clutches and Pouches Michelle designed and sewed for market.

These next two are shots someone took of us talking about our new stuff at a schoolhouse presented and sponsored by Riley Blake Designs.

Next up is one of my faves...Tina Givens. She is always fun to talk to and makes me laugh every time I see her. Her booth is always a showstopper.

There was some really cool stuff happening on her floor as well!

This below is a quilt and sofa from Anna Maria Horner's booth.

She also has a collection of gorgeous ribbons, as you can see below.

You may recognize the next pic as Ty Pennington, formerly of Trading Spaces, and then of Extreme Home makeovers. He is now a fabric designer, and this is his second line for Free Spirit.

And these below are Ty's ties! Very cute...very clever, and I would actually love to dress my husband in these ties if he would let me. I love them!

Next up is the always fabulous Amy Butler. Her new fabric collection: Lark (I think).

And if having one very successful fabric designer in the family wasn't enough, Amy's husband David now has launched his very own collection. It's very manly, isn't it? Quite cool.

And last but not least, one of my good friends, Kay Whit of Serendipity Studio. Kay always has fresh new sewing patterns for women in her booth, as well as accessories clear to heaven. Nice booth Kay!

And last of all is me with my baby sister Lucy of Hot Scott patterns. I should not allow myself to pose next to her. She keeps me really humble!

All in all, quilt market was lots of fun, and lots of work, and lots of great things to see, people to meet, and friends to re-connect with! I always love going, and it is always over too soon for me:)

Peasant Blouse Re-do, and a Contest!

In the beginning, there was the Peasant Blouse. One of my very favorite styles to wear. It was a top I had sewn for myself a couple of times, and even wore once to market before I was a fabric designer. It had Heather Bailey fabrics, Moda fabrics, and Amy Butler fabrics all mixed up in it. I got stopped all over at market by people wanting to know where I got the pattern for it. So...When I was asked to do a pattern (or four), that I could use my new cotton quilting fabrics in, The Funked Out Peasant Blouse was born. It was an instant hit, but it wasn't perfect. Over time, it has been through a few revisions, and now it needs (desperately) a new cover. The featured fabric collection on the original pattern cover was my first collection for Moda, called Woodland Bloom. Maybe you will remember it. Maybe not.

Point is that now it is virtually impossible to find any of that fabric, so it is time to put a new cover on the pattern.

I decided to use one of the shots from my latest photo shoot with Fiona's Fancy fabrics for the new cover. There were a few cute shots, but one that did it the best, I think. What do you think?

That's the new cover, above. I like it. It shows the different sleeve options, and how you can mix up the fabrics to get different looks. Some people have made it longer, to be a tunic, some even longer to be a dress. It works well for all of these ideas.
If you haven't made one yet, and you know how to do basic sewing...you should!

Hello friends!
Yesterday we did a little photo shoot for Fiona's Fancy. This collection just arrived at the warehouse, and is soon to be found on the shelves of your local quilt shops. If yours does not carry it...ASK for it!!

I wanted to share some of the shots with you, so you can see the fabrics used in some of my pattern designs.

Featured in the slideshow: The Funked out Peasant Blouse, in the long and short sleeve versions, Lollipop-Lola sundress and Hat, made a little longer for fall and with an added ruffle at the hem instead of the hem band, And the Day at the Park Jacket, Pants, Skirt and Cap. I added my own flower embellishments to the hats made from duppioni silk.

Another added item is the purchased long cream top with the added ruffle at the hem from my fabric in the damask. This is something you can do as well. I purchased the top at Kid's Gap, and just added the ruffle with some elastic thread in the bobbin.

Fiona's Fancy does the Bellanca Bag

Hello blogworld friends! How has your week (or two) gone? Mine has been pretty good. I have succeeded in getting most of my kids back into school...I say most because the college kids are confusing me as to whether they are in or out. I can't tell. Seems like they are still around most of the time...especially when hungry or have laundry to be done, or out of toilet paper:)

I must say that it does feel good to have a little bit more structure in our schedule, but I'm not sure I am liking the super early mornings that have hit me like a giant baseball bat to the head. You know what I'm talking about? I went to bed at 2:45 last night, and the 6:15 alarm was a rude awakening. Literally. I'm going to be good and go to bed tonight before midnight. But it's sooo hard! The peace and quiet of the nighttime hours is so hard to come by, I just have to enjoy it for a while before my head hits the pillow.

So...in other news, I got a hold of some of my Fiona's Fancy fabric (that is not yet in stores), and it has been really fun to play with! I needed to reprint a couple of my pattern covers anyway, so I decided that Fiona's was going to help me with that. It's a true fall line, with richer colors and more depth to update your fall/winter wardrobe and accessories with. This is my beautiful daughter-who-isn't-really-my-daughter Demi (my daughter's best friend who basically lives with us)...modeling the Bellanca Bag "A-La Fiona's Fancy" in the blush colorway.
I love this bag, and it has been a customer favorite since it first came out. It makes a great diaper bag for the busy Mom, as well as just a perfect sized carry-all for all of us busy girls who need some serious space for all our stuff.
I'll be choosing one of these shots for the new cover look for the Bellanca bag pattern, so be watching for that. If you haven't tried making this bag yet, you really should!

News Flash: Organizer Patterns have arrived!!

Well finally! I was beginning to think there was an "anti-organization" terrorist group out to get me or something. It has been such a drama to get this pattern done! I know there are many of you who have been waiting, emailing, waiting, emailing...checking the blog, waiting some more...and you have been so very patient!

So let me just give you all a little heads up about this pattern:

1. This pattern is not for beginner sewers. (I am talking about the Art Supplies organizer specifically.) That is not to say that you should shy away from it! I am just giving you a little warning so that you don't expect it to be super easy. If you are not a great sewer, but you want one anyway, consider hiring it out. OR...be brave and take it on! (just don't yell at me:)

2. This pattern originally was going to have another bag in it with 4 style options. But as I worked on it, it became really obvious that it was getting too long. (Which translates into too expensive.) I had to make a decision: Increase the price of the pattern by quite a bit) OR take some things out and add them into a new pattern we were already planning for spring market. This new pattern is going to be the second stage of the organizer pattern, and will include the pieces we had to take out, along with some other awesome carriers for your technological devises.

3. There are still four great organizers with multiple style options for you to enjoy in the Deluxe Organizer pattern that just came in. You can make the Art supplies organizer, with two exterior styles, (this shows the wide strap and buckle version)

(this shows the big flower exterior version)

the Travel Satchel, with two flap options, (this shows the scalloped flap)

and the Small Essentials Bag (for those female items we all love to carry around with us).

Hello Hello! It's been a while...

Well you might think that since I've been A-WOL for so long that I've been locked away in a room at the top of a tower, or in a dungeon (more like it), but no, I've just been having a wonderful time on a little "VAY-CAY" as they say in So Cal. ...Crammed seven of us in a car and drove (many hours) to southern Cal to visit my daughter's family, and go to Disneyland, the beach, fave restaurants, shopping, etc...and had a blast! Then when the fun was over, we drove home and I stared at my computer and realized that I was really out of the loop, as far as work was concerned. (But it was well worth it!) So anyway, the news on the street is that my organizer pattern is way late!! IT IS!! I actually sent the WRONG file to the printer for the pattern cover, (which is this nice glossy, folded, double-sided, color card-stock number), and came home to a box of over a thousand of the wrong covers!! To say I was frustrated is putting it mildly. To say that I jumped up and down and screamed out loud at the sky is pretty accurate... but no four-letter words escaped my lips. Just: "NO WAY! I DID NOT DO THAT! NO WAY!! NO STINKING WAY DID I DO THAT!" (Or words to that effect.) So to clarify, the organizers will not be ready to ship until sometime late next week. I know, I know. I said mid-late July. I said that in full confidence that I could do it. But then I turned 50. I cannot be held responsible for anything that happens from this time forth. My whole life has become a big fat senior moment. Does anyone out there feel my pain?? Anyone?? Now I have to throw all of those beautiful, but all wrong, covers in the recycle bin. (Just trying to do my part for the environment.)

Anyhoo...please be patient with me and just wait a little longer. I promise they will come.

So I think it's time I gave a little sneak peek of the next line that is on the table right now. I will get to that, all in good time.

FIRST: Fiona's Fancy!! This collection is new for the fall, shipping in October/November, and being shown in my booth at fall market in Houston. It is rich and warm, full bodied (sounds like a commercial for a draft beer)...and a little, maybe a lot, more sophisticated than Lola's Posies. You can make all kinds of skirts, tops, bags, quilts, and even home decor with this collection.

NOT TO MENTION the fact that there are 12 (count em) 12 laminate prints to go crazy with, and a laminated (or cotton) panel for making 2 cosmetic cases and a cute sunglass case with.

The panels make it so easy...just cut and sew. The instructions are right there for you.

If you have not yet tried sewing with laminated fabrics, you really must! Truly, you must. I am loving them, (obviously), and they have been selling like crazy! I have lots of great ideas in store for sewing with laminate, so keep watching!

Now I said I would give you a little sneak peek of what's in store for next spring. I did say that, so here it is. This is just a little sampling of the collection that will be coming , and will be showing on paper at market in Houston as well. It's full of springtime color, sure to brighten things up after a long and dreary winter. (Did I say that? I'm not supposed to even think of winter, because then it will come)

These colors actually make my mouth water. I really am excited to sew with this collection. Can't wait!

...So let's keep dreaming of spring and maybe we can skip winter this year:) I really think I was supposed to live in a warmer climate. I know it's because I have not had time to ski like I used to. That's the whole problem. But that's a different story for another day.

Hello Blogworld friends...

Summer has finally arrived here in Utah...although there is still a lot of snow in the mountains!
The warmer temperatures have gotten me out on my bike and outdoors a lot more, which is always a good thing for me. Since quilt market I have felt like some sort of hermit... all locked away inside drawing up diagrams and writing instructions for weeks and weeks! I am so glad that I am almost finished creating my patterns!
As you may know, Day at the Park shown below...

And Lollipop-Lola shown below...

...are both ready to ship! You can order them by clicking on any of the patterns for sale on the right sidebar (until I can get them up there too) to go to the pattern shop, where you will see all of my current patterns.

The Posie Bag, another new pattern, is now complete and is going to the printer. You will be able to get it soon as well, but not quite yet. Pre-orders are available now.

I know that many of you who attended quilt market saw and were interested in my new organizer pattern (to go with my new laminated cottons), which I am still working on day and night, between bike rides to clear my head. It's a BIGGY...and has required a lot more time than usual, because of all of the components it will have. I am even considering publishing it in book form because of how many pages and diagrams it has in it.

I don't believe I ever blogged about it, so here we go!

First up is the Laptop Case, which is multi-sized to fit two common laptop sizes. It is padded, and has multiple pockets to fit all your laptop components. Besides that, it comes with two exterior options: the buckled strap option:

To market to market and back again...

Quilt Market spring 2011 in Salt Lake City! It was wild and wonderful and full of delirious craziness, craftiness, beauty and style! I just returned a couple of days ago, and I am just starting to wind down. I had a booth again, which is always interesting... and exhausting to say the least! My dear friend, neighbor and savior Michelle was there again to be my right arm. It was lots of fun, and lots of work, but in the end I think it was successful. As usual, there were things I learned to NOT do next time...and things I learned that I will do again. My family had to ride it out without me, which I don't think they minded at all...even though I was only about 40 minutes away from them. Michelle and I decided to stay in a hotel close by the convention center to minimize brain frazzle on the highways to and from, had we gone home every night. Besides...I was able to reconnect again with my niece and buddy Chelsea, and my baby sister Lucy, which made it so much fun to stay!

Here are a few pics of my booth...which featured my brand new colorful collection called "Lola's Posies" which is just about to hit the store shelves!

These shots are of my booth...which was larger than I usually do...because I could just drive it up the road a bit and drop it off. No shipping!!
Now I am spoiled, and I want to do it in SLC every time. FAT chance of that! (But maybe in about 4 years?!)

This above is a collection of some of my new organizers done up in the new laminated fabrics I have in my new collection! They are super flexible and shiny and easy-care. The organizers are designed to handle all sorts of travel, sewing, first aid, toiletry and cosmetic needs, as well as being super cute and wipe-off-able! A whole bunch of them come in one big pattern...including bags for your laptop, I-pad, and Kindle! This pattern was the hit at my booth.

These little ones are dressed up in the "Lollipop Lola" sundress, hat and shorts pattern, which is new for this spring and summer! You will be able to order this pattern really soon. I am just finishing up the final details on it now, so look for it in a couple of weeks! (Just in time for summer)

Here you can see my little fashion models wearing some of the "Day at the Park" pattern, which is available NOW! This pattern has reversible pants, shorts, capri's, a skirt, reversible jacket and a hat...all in one!

DON'T ASK ME WHY...but I had to put this tree in my booth. It was a must. I can't tell you how many times my husband tried to talk me out of it. Maybe because he couldn't park his car in the garage for a month. I don't know...but daily I would be sent links to little silk trees, or little fake palms from the internet...thinking that I might wake up and say...what was I thinking? He finally gave up. I was set on it... and it worked!

We wanted more lights, but by the time we realized there weren't enough, the stores were closed and it was the last set up day. I think it turned out OK anyhow.

You may have noticed the rain coat...that's my Santa Monica Jacket and Cap pattern, done up in some fabulous laminated cotton from my Lola's Posies collection. YUM!

This little faux bed was enticing for everyone who walked by...it's tiring walking around for 8 solid hours a day! It's just my family room ottoman with a little mattress on it and some blankets and throw pillows! Don't you love that big flower pillow in the middle???

There were so many gorgeous booths there this time, as usual, and I want to show you some of my favorites. I'll be back soon with an update on that. So stay tuned!

Happy Days

I just got home from a great trip to California over our spring break. We drove with most of the family to see my daughter and her family, which turned out to be a wonderful experience in almost every way! The road trip was actually not bad at all...thanks to the DVD player in the car! (What would my parents have done to have one of those when I was growing up!?)

One of the great things about the trip was that I was able to take some photos of my new pattern designs for my booth and for the covers of the patterns themselves. It was really fun using Halle and Lola as my models! They could not have been cuter or sweeter! Now that I'm home there is tons of work to catch up on, and I know I will pay for the time I spent playing...but it was so worth it!

Here are some of the highlights.

This is Halle wearing the Lollipop Lola Top, Hat and shorts in the Rose colorway.

That's my new quilt, made from all of the colorways combined. It's very 3-D and super cute!

Below is Lola wearing the same outfit in the pink colorway, in a dress version without the shorts.

Now Lola is wearing the Day at the Park jacket and skirt in the blue colorway. We haven't tried putting the hat on yet. Will she keep it on???

We switched out the skirt for the pants. Now she can really crawl!

She actually didn't mind the hat! I was so surprised. What a sweet face!

Back to Halle Rose... She was such a pleasure to work with. Love that little girl!

Such fun for Grandma!

I'm Baaaaaack

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Balmy, intoxicating, captivating. That's where I've been for the last week.
Now that I'm home again, it's hard to believe I was ever there. It was a dream, a blink of an eye, an ethereal vision.

Sometimes a person needs to escape reality, even for only a few days. Hey, I'll even take a few hours...like a good movie and dinner, getting lost in a really great book, a relaxing massage, a hot bath with candles.

But this was better, WAY better. True, it's all a mirage now, but it was real for a while, and that made all the difference. I'm refreshed and ready. Bring on the kids, the dog, the phones, the computers, the cooking, laundry, dishes...you know the drill.

Here are just a few pictures I captured on my trip to Cabo. I hope you can relax a bit and pretend you are there too as you take them in.

Thanks to Kirk and Jackie, our neighbors and friends who shared their beautiful home with us! We were spoiled beyond belief!

I got a pretty good tan for being there only a week. That is something that will fade away with time. (A really short time actually) But our memories will take much longer to fade. Then it will be time to go back again!! Hint hint;)

Just wanted to share that with you. I hope you enjoyed your little moment in Cabo!

More Spring Sewing on it's Way

HOW GORGEOUS IS SHE???

We here in snowy Utah are still stuck smack in the middle of winter. We get little glimpses of spring once in a while, but then we get a big fat reminder that in fact it is still winter, so... "don't get too excited". We are forced back into our stark reality, and can only dream of springtime and warm sunny days, green leaves, freshly mowed lawns, birdies singing, flowers blooming, fragrant breezes blowing... you know what I mean.

So in times like this I fall back on the fact that springy fabrics can almost make me believe it's already here.
Soire'e. That was my fave springtime fabric line.
So in planning for my new patterns, I decided to practice on the "Suntop" version of the Sundress, (remember when I was at the hotel and I made a little sundress?) and make a little pair of shorts and sunhat to match.
There will indeed be a pattern for this. I think it's going to be called:Named after my little grand daughter Lola...just 10 months old!
Here it is...in some of my favorite Soire'e prints. YUM!

I really needed my little Halle Rose to be here to try this on for you. Darn!

Hopefully you will be able to sew with these around May-ish. Maybe before! They will be sized for 6months to 6 years.

Fun Stuff!

So as you know, spring quilt market this year is being held in Salt Lake City, Utah...which happens to be basically my back yard.
One of the things that is going on to celebrate that fact is a huge quilt that is being put together by all of the Utah based designers; designers of textiles, sewing patterns, quilts, etc.
The theme of the quilt is: All Dolled Up in Salt Lake City

Each of us has been asked to design a quilt block based on a doll...which we have been supplied with in template form. We were also supplied with colorful fabric to make her with.

We each were asked to dress her up as we desired, and create a quilt block featuring her, that will be put together into a large quilt that will be given away, or raffled, or auctioned off or something like that.

In addition, each of the blocks with their templates and directions to make them will be available at each of the designer's personal booths. People can stop in at each booth to pick up each of the block patterns, so they can create something similar, either as a group project, or for one very ambitious, very tenacious person to create on their own!

So I decided it would be fun to show you a little bit of what I ended up doing for this assignment.

First of all, true to my nature...I procrastinated it till just a few days ago. The deadline is Feb. 28th.

Second, I took a look at the doll template.

(You don't have to do the hair the way they did...it's just an idea.)

Then I drew a design that I wanted to do for her clothes. Maybe you can see it...it's a little light.

I decided to put her into a little skirt with a "V" neck top, covered with a longer fur-trimmed coat. She has boots too, which I personally love to wear.

Next, I began to work on the hair I wanted her to have. BIG. WILD. STRAWBERRY BLOND. I decided to use some of my vast silk collection for the hair. I love the sheen of it.

Once I had the design elements on paper, I proceeded to cut out each little piece from the appropriate fabric, which had been backed with a paper-back adhesive. (I never said I was a pro at needle turn applique'...so I cheated.)
Then I ironed all those pieces onto my background fabric, and began stitching, stitching, stitching. I used embroidery floss in matching shades.

I love doing it...it's tons of therapy for me.

Now here is what the finished product looked like.
This fabric is from Riley Blake, the Sweet Divinity line, By Amanda Herring (Quilted Fish).

Also true to my nature, I had to bang it out with a giant over-sized flower. (Simply had to.)

FACES are tricky! I think that left eye is bigger than the right. Darn!
Do I fix it?

So wouldn't it be fun to see all the other blocks that have been done or are currently in the process? I think so.
I promise to get some fabulous pictures of the final quilt at market so everyone can see all that creative deliciousness when it's all done.

Sneak Peek: New patterns coming in May!

Hello! I am so enjoying the bit of sunshine we are getting here right now...if I don't go outside, and I only look at the sky, I might think it was April or May! It's bright and blue and looks like spring is here. But I know better. Haha. It's like 2 degrees with a wind chill factor of minus 20.

So anyway.... I thought I would send you a little snippet of what I made during my little hotel getaway. These are ideas for patterns that I am busy working up for the spring International Quilt Market in May. These are all sewn up in my Spirit collection, but they will all be redone in my new and upcoming collection, called Lola's Posies. I may even show you a bit of that as well!
They will be available in a size range of 6 months to 6 years. So here we go:
First up: the pinks and greens: This is the peasant style top with the super twirly skirt. I made all these pieces to fit my little Lola girl:) Size 12 months.

This floppy hat goes with the set.

Notice the cute contrasting fabric covered button and loop closure.

This skirt is super fun and flouncy! (But this is a weird angle)

Next up: The Kimono-style jacket and pants, with the beanie-style cap. All of these pieces are completely reversible!!

Turn-back cuffs make them fit for an extra long time.

as I said, reversible.

Last but not least, the super sweet paneled sundress, and that same floppy hat. Perfect for a day at the beach, or at the park, or anywhere!

Now for the blue/coral combo: this is the same peasant blouse, only with short sleeves this time. I made all these pieces in this colorway to fit my little Halle Rose! (Size 3)

And here's the twirly skirt with the Kimono Jacket and Beanie cap in this color combination!

I love this skirt...you can combine it so many ways!

And...the Jacket with the reversible capris.

... can't wait to see them all in their sweet little clothes! I'm sending the package today, so Britt can test drive them. (They have to stand up to those two little bundles of energy to make the cut:)

Oh...I did say I would show you a little Lola's Posies.
This is the Rose colorway. Just a little collection of snips so you can see how it works.
That large cut is 24" wide! It's a nice large scale design...perfect for clothing and home decor.
This collection debuts in May at Quilt market, and hits the shelves just after that!

So that's all she wrote, and all I made, but I'm nowhere close to done. I haven't even gotten dressed yet today. (Now that's embarrassing!)

Hi there blogworld friends!
Just want to thank all of you who entered my little giveaway! It is always so nice to hear from you, see your blogs, read your comments!

I know, I know...you want to know who won.
Well...I can't tell you yet. I will,but not yet.
Did I tell you that I have been on a little break? It's not a real break, only a break from my usual routine. I have been working the whole time. But let me just say that I have truly found the method that works for me, if I want to really accomplish something.

Here it is:(the method) Check myself into a (cheap) hotel right here in my own town, and stay for at least 3 days and 3 nights, ALL BY MYSELF.
It's weird, I know. What's weirder is what I bring with me: My sewing machine and serger, all my sewing supplies, a boatload of fabric, my computer, printer, scanner, design tools, and some comfortable clothes. (Imagine what the hotel management thinks when they see me traipsing in with all that strange gear (hehe).
The other thing is...
NO husband, no kids, no laundry, no cooking, no cleaning, no homework, no dropping people off, picking people up, no distractions at all. I even put my phone on silent.
I have found that it's the most therapeutic thing for me, and I can whip out all kinds of stuff in record time. I only do this twice a year, about 3 or 4 months before each quilt market, cause that's when I start to panic:)
So when people ask how I do it with 7 kids, that's how.

BUT... tomorrow morning it all comes to an end:(
It's OK. I'm ready now. It's time to enter back into the real world, and be the real Mom again.
(I did cheat and let my kids come swimming in the pool a couple of times...that way they don't complain so much about me doing this.)

When I get home, the first thing on my agenda is to go to church with my family (and thank the Lord for giving me a husband who allows me to do everything that I do without complaining), and then come home and use the "online contest randomizer" to pick the PRIZE WINNERS!

I got the urge to see my little baby girls, and went on my daughter's facebook page to steal a peek.
Look what I found!

These three shots show the little strip work skirts I made for my little babies for Christmas! I mentioned them in a recent post.

The one on the left (Lola's) is a little sneak peek of the new "Lola's Posies" fabric line that will be coming out in the spring. (where'd that name come from???)
It's made of little strips from the strike-offs I got recently. You can't see too much, but that's OK since it's yet to be revealed!

The one on the right that Halle has on is mostly made of "Isabella" prints, as well as some "Spirit" and some "Eden" mixed in. It's nice when you can do that with different collections, isn't it?

And just look at adorable little Lola being cute and coy!

I can't stand it!!!

What's a Mom to do when her kids all go back to school??

PAINT!!

No, I didn't paint a room, even though most of my house needs it. I didn't repaint my kitchen table that REALLY needs it. Instead I painted a canvas for Chelsea.

See...a while ago...OK a year ago, Chelsea asked me to paint a picture to hang in the sewing room of her new house. I said "Sure...if you will give me some of your pattern samples to give my little grand daughters." (I'm such a wheeler-dealer.) She said, "ummm....OK."

So she immediately sent me a big box full of darling Pink Fig clothing items as adorable as you can possibly imagine them being. I was so excited! I sent them all to my daughter in California, who then began dressing her little cutie pies up in them and flaunting them all over So. Cal.
What about that painting I promised Chelsea?? (you ask).

Well, um, I got really busy and sorta forgot that I ever said that I would do that.
Time went by... Then one day not too long ago, ( It was July, actually) Chelsea sent an email. Just a subtle hint, mind you.

Here's what she said.

Hi Lila!

I have been thinking about my painting. I would like something to go in my sewing room above the fire place. I don't want it to be specific to a certain fabric, but more something that could go with everything.

I definitely want flowers and lot's of colors. I have Lila Tueller, Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Tula Pink, Paula Prass, Joel Dewberry, Tina Givens etc... fabric on display. Lot's of teals, pinks, greens, oranges, yellows, pretty much everything.

Is that going to be hard to do?

All of my furniture is white in my sewing room and I have black accents. I'm going for a shabby chic/vintage feel. It's a mess from the move, but I attached some pictures of the room for you.

The light bulb went on in my brain, and I realized that I had let that one slip by.
Anyway, so when my kids all started back to school, I decided it was time. I pulled out my paint supplies, bought a great big canvas, and went to town. When I do that, I don't sleep, I don't eat, I don't do anything but paint.
It takes me a while, but I can usually get it done in a couple days. Sometimes three. OK maybe I sleep a little bit. Maybe I eat a little too. But only if it takes that long. In this case, it was only a day and a half.

So I put it up on my mantle and took a picture to send to her.

These are close-up shots so you can see the texture better.

She Likes it!! Or so she says. She can't really come pick it up, not without driving for 12 hours or catching a plane. I'm certainly not going to try to ship it to her. So it's gong to have to wait till Quilt Market in May, which is in Salt Lake City this year! That's right down the road from me! HOW CONVENIENT!!
Chelsea will be coming to that, so she'll pick it up then and ship it with all her other stuff home. I hope it will look nice in that room! What do you think?

Now I want to paint something else. Any ideas?? (Not the kitchen table)

Hello everyone,

It's me, (not the cat, although I feel the way he/she looks) hoping everyone had a very Merry Christmas and wishing everyone a Happy New year!! And if you don't celebrate Christmas, I wish you Happy Holidays anyway! I meant to post before Christmas...but you know how it can get.
I just never quite got it done. But better late than never, right?

So...
I've been busy this Christmas, sewing up little gifts and things, as I usually do.
This year I decided to make some little sun-glass cases and cosmetic cases for my female gift recipients to use in their purses.

Everyone got a matching/coordinating set. Simple but useful.
I started out basic, and then I got a little fancier. But not too fancy. They needed to be quick or I knew I'd never get them done.

I also made some skirts for my daughters, and my granddaughters. Unfortunately, pictures of those will have to wait till I can get Abby to model them for me. Right now she's engrossed in the "Wii". Not a chance.
I used the "Hippy Chick" skirt pattern by Pink Fig,

and I used the Stripwork skirt pattern, also by Pink Fig for the little skirts.

I took little liberties with all of them...it seems I always do that.
Aren't these patterns great??

I hope all of you had fun getting ready for the season of gift giving, and that you have had better weather than we have. We have lots of snow, but it has been unusually gray and dismal. In fact, it has been many days since I've seen the sun at all. That gets old real quick.

This picture is of the mountains behind my house, on a nice sunny day...before the "smog" set in and ruined the view.

I don't do well in this kind of atmosphere. My allergies have been acting up because of the junk that is trapped in the cloud cover, and I am just generally feeling a little under the weather. But that is not the actual "unfortunate problem" I mentioned in today's post title.
The real "unfortunate problem" is this:
It would seem...unfortunately...that my new Cambridge Bag pattern is missing the Curve Template, that should have been included in the pattern.
Although It has been added now, until December 20th, I actually was not aware that it was not printed with the pattern pieces. Don't ask me how I didn't notice. Blame it on my age, blame it on me being blond. (Actually I'm not really a true blond...) Blame it on the fact that I had been staring at the instructions for months, and it had all become mush in my brain. Blame it on whatever you want. But somehow I missed that little detail. Hmmmmm.

So...this, of course, is a problem.
It's a problem because I have sent out hundreds and hundreds of those patterns to points all over the globe. None of those people probably know yet that they are missing the template, and they are about to figure it out and send me emails. Some of them will be nice emails. Some of them will not be nice at all. Some of them might even be naughty. I can't really blame them, can I?.

So... now I have added the Curve Template to this blog, and you can click on the link under the "Pattern Corrections" section, (right side, scroll down past all of the pattern images) to download your template, which you can then print off.

If you own a shop, and you have Cambridge Cargo Bags in stock, Please print these out for your patterns, and insert them into the little pattern baggies. (I'm sure you are not busy at all and you have plenty of time for this activity.)

If you would rather I mail you the templates, send me an email requesting them and I will gladly send hard copies to you.

If you have purchased this pattern at a shop, and did or did not yet notice that you don't have that template, please just print one off for yourself and you should be good to go.

If you are just flaming mad and want to chew me out, feel free to do so. I can take it. It's totally my mistake, and I am owning it.

So there it is...I hope you will not let this stop you from making the bag. Don't let the lengthy instructions stop you either. (That's just me trying to be ultra-clear, and I probably went a little overboard.)

So back to the part about having a wonderful Holiday...I hope you are!!

Have you ever seen something that just inspired you beyond words? And all you can do is tear up and try to hold it together, while you are saying inside yourself...Oh. My. Goodness.

This is was one of those things for me. It doesn't have anything to do with Christmas really, except to prove that God exists because there is no other explanation for this than the fact that God has blessed some people with talents that just cannot be contained. Where else could this come from???

This kid is maybe 13 years old...and, well, you will have to see for yourself.

Thanksgiving: a time to reflect on our blessings.That's what it's all about.
I have to say that I am most thankful right now for my family. I am so blessed!

That's Troy. (above) He's my seven year old energizer bunny/Karate expert.
Ask me how many times a day he does this move.

Just finished a big week here at the homestead...had lots of friends and family around to make it memorable. Had the absolute Best Turkey On Record...I'll explain that sometime. (I'm calling Guinness.)

Since I had all seven of my kids at home, we had to take a few family pictures. It's a rare occasion for us... not so much having them all here, but the family picture part. We just don't do it like we should. Don't know why...maybe it's just that we are so busy living in the now, that we can't think about the later for even a darn second. That's why I am so bad at scrap-booking too.

These are my cute kids. They are what makes it all worthwhile!

You may notice some extras here. The girl in the navy blue shirt is practically a family member...she is my daughter Nat's best friend, and she basically lives with us. She had to be in the family hat shot.

And the little one in front with the attitude? She's from England visiting us with her "Mum", there to the left in the photo, and I wish every one of you could have heard them talk. Their accents were SO COOL! Really thick London accents...that we couldn't get enough of. We all just sat around listening to them talk, asking questions so we could hear more...egging them on. That accent on a precocious little four year old thing was beyond adorable. PRICELESS! They are friends that my son Cade brought over from his mission to meet our family. We had such a lovely time with them! But...We wanted to keep little "Livvy"...

Can you blame us?? Look at her!
This is little LOLA (7 months old) with Paige...those piercing blue eyes! That look she's got makes me wonder what she was thinking at the moment. Paige is beautiful, as usual.
And these are the Tueller girls. And me. We have a lot of girl power. We are a force to be reckoned with.

And these are the Tueller men. Also a force to be reckoned with, but definitely not the same force as the women. Nope, no contest. (JK guys.)

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! And if you don't live in America, I hope you can come to my house sometime and take part in our Thanksgiving festivities! You shouldn't have to miss it!

Whew! It was a whirlwind, but soooo fun! International Quilt Market in Houston is officially over, but you wouldn't know it if you looked in my house right now. There are boxes and papers, samples and patterns, fabric scraps and trims and way more mess than before I left, I think! My husband is very patient, but this is totally taking over our living quarters.
I really need a warehouse, and a staff of people to help me organize myself.
(NOT my forte')
Anyway...I have just a few pictures for today. The rest will have to wait till Monday. These are all from my booth, and I'm sorry there isn't one of the whole thing from a distance. They are all snippets from different angles, so it's hard to get an idea of the booth as a whole. But no matter...it's a start:)

This above, is Michelle in the long skirt, who is my neighbor and friend, who came to save my life in multiple ways! she was the hardest worker, the happiest helper and the first to fall asleep at night.

In the foreground is Jessica, who is a long time friend who came from Massachusetts to help me with my booth, and to bring her art designs to look for a position designing. She did both, and will soon be working for Andover Fabrics as a fabric designer!! I'm soooo proud of her! She has tons of talent, and she deserves to have her work recognized in a big way!
Congrats Jess!!! (And thanks for all your help!)

This above, is a little fabric necklace and belt I made and featured in my schoolhouse the day before market opened. It was fun...and I think everyone liked their ceramic necklace gifts!

There was sooo much to see, so many fabulous booths, so much beautiful fabric, so many wonderful new patterns, and all the fun, bright, happy faces shining with excitement!
I just love reuniting with all of my quilt market friends...we always have so much fun!

I know it's way harder than I can imagine...and I know she's really tired from her trip. but I'm so impatient!

This is a sweet little picture of my second grand baby, Lola. Isn't she a little doll? I wish I could see her right now. She lives too far away! I'm hoping she won't grow too much before I see her at Thanksgiving. I could just steal some sugar off her and I wouldn't need a bit of turkey and stuffing! Or pumpkin pie for that matter.

Well. anyway... It's 2:00 am and I'm finally taking a moment to bid farewell as I go off to Quilt Market in Houston:) It's over Halloween this year...Booooo. (No pun intended;)
Such bad timing! My kids are really disappointed I won't be here to see them in costume, and I won't be here to make my traditional Halloween Pumpkin Soup either. That's nothing short of tragic! I don't know if I can live through that.

Quilt Market should be fun, though, if I can get over the Halloween thing. This time I am doing a new booth. Although it's still a 10'x10', I have decided to go with hard walls this time. Hopefully the booth will make it intact to the show, and I won't have to do too much repair work on it! I haven't been able to justify doing a large booth...I just feel like it's too much money, and I have a lot of mouths to feed. I think I feel better about being more conservative. It just fits me better. That's not to say I won't ever do a larger booth, but you know...times are tough right now, the economy is in the toilet, and It's not the time for extravagance. At least not for me.

I'll get lots of pictures, and I'll try to post while I'm there so you can see things as they happen! It promises to be full of beautiful things to look at, so I hope you won't mind if I post again soon about it.

Hello hello!

Just dropping a note to let you know that you can order these brand spanking new sewing patterns NOW!

These three new patterns are available for Pre-Order only. That means you can reserve them now so that you will be among the first to receive them as soon as they become available, which will be within the next week or so.

All you have to do is click on the images to go straight to the pattern shop. These patterns will be showing themselves at quilt market in a couple of weeks, so no one has seen them yet except here on my blog. The fabric collection, Isabella, will also be showing at Quilt Market, and will become available early in November, so watch for that! If you own a shop, you can go to Riley Blake Designs to order the fabric now.

I have been extremely busy preparing for Quilt Market, getting my booth all ready to go. Of course I will come home with lots of pictures to share with you, hopefully some great video footage as well, and tons of eye-candy from all of the fabulous booths and displays there for your fabric craving fulfillment:) Does everyone have fabric cravings? Or is it just me???

Anyway...it's always a treat, and always a crazy wild ride full of adventure. I still have not figured out Houston's freeway system. I always get lost in that city. This time, I'm getting a GPS in my rental car! (DUH!!)
