New Colorway Happenings

This is the first of many to come, but I thought you might want to see what I've been up to. Designing fabric is fun, but I don't get much sleep. I was up till 4 last night, and 3:45 the night before that. It's the only time I can be alone with my thoughts and my sketchpad.

Here is a sneek peek of what I'm working on now. This is Fall, 2010. My deadline is fast approaching...hense the late nights!

Tell me what you think! (Even if you don't care for it!)

This is the main print for the group. It's bigger than it looks.

I'm trying to blend the two colorways together... I think it works so far...
Here it is in yellow and pink.

What do you think??

Love the designs, but honestly, the green background is not working for me.

I love that bird...for real.

I absolutely love the design -- the free-flow feeling of it and the whimsical quality. I don't think I care for the teal background though -- not sure why -- it just doesn't "feel" quite right. Everything else about it "feels" wonderful though! ;o)

I love it, especially the bird! Very fun.

The color palette is wonderful and I love the little bird! I would definitely need some of these prints.

I love the design! Love it! You are amazing!

I like the way you are trying to bridge two colors ways and I think it works. The outlining in white gives a really nice pop to the colors. I like the teal color. I would also enjoy seeing the background in the lighter shade of the cocoa brown. I agree with all the others, you are amazing!

I am just amazed! wow! I love how the two colourways just flow together! I too would like to see this one made into a lighter background shade. Take elements from this one (the flowers or the bird, so cute this one) and make another pattern out of it. This is working out so wonderfully! I think staying up late is working out! You are incredibly talented! (and we have to wait another year... how hard!)

I love it! The Aqua in the background is YUM. I love the meshing of the two colorways and I'm always a fan of prints with a lot of color. I think it's Perfect for a Fall line!

Can't wait to get some:)

I really like it! I, too, love the addition of the little birds! I really like the color combination!

i like it... and i'm super critical... (result of color theory in design school)... there are a lot of lines out that don't do it for me... but i think these colors will!

I love the bird and the whimsy of this new design but Im not sure Im loving the background color. Don't know if the teal would get me more. I love bright bold colors. But Im in love with the little birdy.......Keep up the great work. Love all of your fabrics. Glenda

Your focus piece is wonderful. Our customers are still asking for birds and I love how you just find them there in the folage. Great colors and style. I do like the teal background but would like to see one other option since it's obvious not everyone does. Would a light background work with your vision? Can't wait for my Moda rep to pull this group out of his bag!

I love the bird, of course! I am really a spring person, but I realize it's not about me! I think the colors for Fall are beautiful, and they blend well. I really love to see the yellow.....will you have more????
I wish I had some now for some of my fall bags I'm making!!!

LOVE the colors, not feelin the print though.

betsyb said...

like the lady above me, i like the colors, but the print is too *busy* for me ... also, i am not enamored with the white outlines ...

sewali said...

Not for me I'm afraid, but you can't please all the people all the time :o). I prefer clearer, brighter colours, I loved Woodland Bloom and have yards of it in my stash, but this isn't talking to me. The bird is cute as are some of the flower motifs and the fronds blended into the background, but overall the palette doesn't appeal and the print is too busy for my taste. Good luck on achieving your deadline, frankly I'm amazed at how much you do with so many family commitments!

April said...

I like it so far :) I'm not sure the brown flower should be polka dotted, as it's not white outlined like the rest of the polka dotted elements. Also, the white feathery edge isn't really doing it for me on the bird.

That said, I love the way the colors flow. I think you've done a good job of balancing the colors from both colorways. It would be fun to see this print with a brown background, like a previous poster said. Great job!

April said...

OH! I just saw the yellow, and love it THAT MUCH MORE. I think the yellow works better for a fall line, too. It's beautiful.

This is awesome Lila! The floral with the bird and different colorways that all work together will be wonderful!!

LOOOVE it!!!

I love the colors and the birds! Amazing! I'm not sure if it is the white outlines I find troublesome. Or maybe the "line drawings" overlaying the overall pattern. I can't wait to see these in the stores.

I love it and want some. The bird is a great touch.

I can't wait!! I love it! You are amazing and you already know how I feel about your stuff. (and you)It's HAPPY:-)

Lila, I LOVE it. :) I think this is going to make gorgeous bags and aprons, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

I love the colours on yellow and pink and the teal looks better everytime I see it again. I am not so keen on the polka dots though but that's just never been my cup of tea. The little birdie is cute!

I'm with everyone else! I love it...I love the fact that there is so much going on, but you don't realize it until you look more closely, everything just blends so well. Fabulous colours and design! Great job!

Michelle said...

I love it. The colors are amazing. I am with others and I would love to see a cocoa color background, I'm sure you can figure it out!!

Kay said...

Hey Lila!

I really like the design elements, but the colors don't seem quite right to me. Maybe it is my monitor!! Good luck meeting your deadline... : ) Hope to see you at fall market.

Fat & Sassy said...

Thank goodness! REAL fall colors but still happy! I'd love to see your take on a paisley to compliment this pattern. If you didn't have the white outline it wouldn't have the same 'batik' like feeling, I think it would look to jumbled. The only thing I would suggest experimenting with is the scale of the white outlined leaves and flowers, maybe try making them larger??
Good Luck! And GREAT job!

Ok, so I LOVE the green/aqua color! It's actually my fav! So, why does this look so different from when I saw it in your binder? Was this print in your binder? I actaully like the texturing a great deal! It's a different look for you... but still totally you! By the way, how is that birdie of yours? She still stressed?

Love the green and yellow versions. Love them!

Love all of them! Can't wait til it comes out!

Lila, you are amazing. I am crazy for all the fabric you design. I've got yards of Woodland bloom, cakes & charms of Soiree, and can't wait to get my hands on Santorini.
I'm loving the colors and prints for this new line. At first the teal wasn't my fave but now I really like it. I like both colorways. What does this print look like with just the first colorway? I think the first colorway is my fave for fall. No matter what you go with, I love it so far and plan to buy yards of it. I love your work.

mom2three said...

This is tough to say, but I'm not as thrilled as I'd hoped to be. I have your Neptune and Soiree lines and they are so close to my heart, I just ADORE them... they are being made into things that I'll use every day. This line is nice, but I don't have that same draw to it that I had with the others... I think it's that I'm not crazy about the greens/blues together. The yellow background I love, and the little birds are so cute. So, I'd probably only buy specific prints instead of charm packs and layer cakes of the whole line. Thanks for sharing the new designs with us!

Great colors especially the yellow background. I have only a few things I am not partial to which is the dots on the flowers and leaves. I LOVE dots but its just not working for me with this pattern. The only other thing I'm not a huge fan of is the birds nappy/fluff stuff that here and there around its body. It could be bugging me due to the bit of white peeking through here and there around his body too? Either way theres my two cents.

Love the colors!

I have enjoyed your past designs. We couldn't keep instock of woodland bloom. We are still asked if we have any hiding somewhere. I am not fond of ALL of the birds that I am seeing, but others are, and thats ok. The background on the yellow on --- it blaaands together to much, or atleast on the computer. In real life if may be just fine. The pink one shows the other colors alot better and the teal one reminds me of the seventies.

I'm sorry, but it's not coming together for me. You have some interesting elements, but they're too random and not working together to make me want it. Keep at it. You'll get it!

Totally works for me !!! Tis Yummm... Just luvin' the way your imagination works...

Hey, I'm not sure where to leave my comments for a particular item......My name is Angie Christensen. I live in Valdez, Alaska. We moved here from Utah. I love your new Abbey Lane quilt patterns and I love how you provide the amount of fabric needed to make it. Living up here, I'm pretty limited to when and where I get things. I love to know in advance so that I can buy the fabric while the pattern is being sent to me. The only suggestion I have is to maybe put the end dimensions on the site as well. (Maybe it's on there and I'm ditzy?) But if it's a lap quilt and I want it a twin, I'd know to buy extra for borders or what not. I'm trying to pick which one I want to do first...........they are all so amazing. I love everything you are doing.
